Finished Lesson One

Silk Rayon Velvet

At my usual turtle pace, I have finished lesson one of Glennis' online shibori class.  I will be doing more clamp resist and absolutely love these Colorhue dyes!  Look at the violet on the rayon silk velvet!  It is such lovely fabric and the each took the color a slightly different strike rate.  My poor photos don't begin to show how lovely this bit is.

I've been stitching on lesson two and am almost finished.  This is a nice weight cotton.  I will either dye it with eucalyptus or indigo, haven't decide which yet.  I love sitching and have enjoyed having the house to myself watching a 6 episode Charles Dickens period DVD.   The class instructions are very good with lots of photos and videos.  I have several Shibori books and have played off and on, but it is nice to have incentive to keep plugging away.

Shibori Class

Clean sink, no really it's clean!

First sample complete
I am participating in an online shibori class offered by Shibori Girl Studios.  I haven't posted much of my dye samples on this blog.  I dabble in procion mx, assorted acid dyes and natural dyes.  The class uses Colorhue Dyes.  These are called instant set and boy are they easy, peasy!  I ordered a kit for the class that had an assortment of silks and a basic set of Colorhue dyes.  If anyone knows the secret behind the curtain, I would love to know what type of dyes they really are.  They exhaust like acid dyes, and don't strike as fast as procion mx.   I am enjoying plodding along at my turtle pace working on suggested samples.

Kitties sleeping

The Queen
The Princess in her tower

I can't help but post a couple gratuitous kitty photos.  We are fortunate to have two really smart, beautiful cats!  This how they look most of the time, napping.   They do play with their toys, at 3 am.   The queen knows to pull the string on her hamster to make it vibrate!  She is also Houdini with doors.   They also like lots of laptime with purrs and head rubs.
