Robert's Hall Photos

Wonderful Bluegrass Music and Quilts!

Screaming Fleas
Roberts Hall
These are a couple of photos from Roberts Hall art and music festival.  The two main rooms have been restored with white walls and new and antique quilts hanging as decoration.  Simple and quite lovely.  It is hard to describe how it feels to walk inside this space.  For those of us that have experienced old drug stores and dry goods stores when they were the norm, stepping inside this building is like stepping into memories of dishes of ice cream scooped into glass dishes served with a flourish and a long spoon, and lemonades with carbonated soda.  The upstairs meeting room has original Old Florida painted murals on walls can tell thousands of stories they have lived.

A few books

Topo Map cover SBB Book

Inside cover with stamp
Secret Belgian Binding Book (4" X 4")
Today's post shows a couple of small, ~ 4" square, Secret Belgian Binding books.   The top book uses Topographic maps over boards as cover. The bottom book uses a Christmas napkin glued over board.  I thinned PVA and brushed over to seal the napkin and make it able to be handled, then dry brushed Lumier metallic paint  over.  Secret Belgian Binding is one of my favorite book structures!  The papers used in these books is stationary paper found on clearance at the local office supply store.

I made these for an arts festival I participated in yesterday.  The festival was organized to highlight restoration of Roberts Hall in Lynn Haven Florida.   The committee has done a remarkable job restoring the lovely old building.  Yesterday was what I refer to as a grand and glorious day.  I was set up next to friendly and talented John and Lois and broom maker Pat who went out of their way to help me get set up and chatted with me throughout the day.  Lois shared her hand crafted cookies with me and they were divine!  Starting at 9 am they had music continuously throughout the day.  It was like sitting in on a free all day Bluegrass, folk, choral, rock concert! I took a few photos and if they aren't too blurry and I have time, I'll post them later in the week.

Working out the kinks

Felt pouch 6" X 5"

Felt pieces from previous post morphed into pouches
Here are the two felt pieces from last post made into sweet little pouches.  I found an interesting photo of similar colored felt on another blog.   Very pretty!

These photos were taken in my light box setup using the Nikon camera.  This had all been put away for Christmas and is now cluttering up the living room.  I have different background papers somewhere in the atelier.  I will see if I can unearth them for next photos.

Bits and Bobs

Ready to share a few bits of creativity of the week.  The preceeding is an image of small piece of felt I made on Sunday.  It started as a raw Corredale fleece.  I washed, picked and dyed the fiber using acid dyes.  Then blended the lime with turquoise on my drum carder.  This bit is about 5 inches by 8 inches and is destined to be a small pouch.   The little tail is my first attempt after seeing these dangles on some of the nicer felt blogs.  Seems to have worked, but I need to work on photoshop skills.  Here is another.

First Post

Welcome to the new year, 2011.  Welcome to my new blog.  This will be a treasure chest of my creative collections gathered as I wander through the day.  A hodge podge of fiber, words and photos.
