Father's day gift and new book finish with Heidelberg prints

Travel pouch for pills
This is a little Father's day gift for my Beloved.   Like my golf clubs I bought myself for Mother's Day, he bought an equally expensive thing he wanted for his Father's Day present.   I recently found this wonderful fox fabric (Beloved collects foxes, long story) and wanted to make something out of it.   The plan was to find a nice plastic box that would hold daily pill container and a couple of vitamin bottles for travel and make a nice padded cover for it, a'la Vera Bradly.  I couldn't find one the right size, but I did find a nice zippered travel pouch, so added a fabric panel to personalize it.

Heidelberg print!
Here we have a new SBB book.  This one has some vintage prints that were printed on the Heidelberg press at St. Andrews.   I am apprenticing with Buddy and we made them!!  Yes, we did!  It was so totally awesome!  I was walking on air the rest of the week.  The best part is I get to do it again this week.  A dab of ink goes in, there is whirring and wooshing, paper magically disappears from one stack and appears on the other with pictures!
Easy cut block print

Here is another homemade print.  I have been wanting to carve blocks and print for a long time.  Bought the materials and tools and couldn't bring myself to start.   Saturday morning fresh and determined with half a pot of coffee in me, I sketched a couple of ideas, then carved an easy cut block and printed it with water soluble speedball ink.  All the prints had smudges or thin spots, but still not bad for seat of the pants original sketch and first print!  Most of the prints are going into a book with a more advanced binding.   Stay tuned!

A finish and two new starts

Woven wool rug
Finished a wool rug and a few mug rugs.  My floor loom is now naked.
New warp

New socks
Attended a lovely warping workshop this weekend.  Am attempting to warp a table loom with repp weave warp.  Lovely colors!  Already goofed, should have followed instructions closer!

Also starting a new sock, Cestar, 75% cotton 25% wool.  Picked up Socks a la carte Toes up! book and am following along.  Will probably attempt a lacy body for a change.

Finally a little color from my native Florida garden.

A bit of this, a dash of that

Today's creative product
Had a lovely morning with the basket makers.  Billy Owens was kind enough to travel all the way from Missouri to help us put together our white oak baskets.   This is the oval basket.  Last year his son-in-law taught us how to make a yarn basket (in background) and several others.  It amazing to hear the details of starting with a tree and ending with the materials we use to weave our basket with.  Materials and techniques indigenous to the Ozarks, functional, lovely and true to it's roots.  There aren't many people, with the knowledge, who will take the time to do all the work needed to create the materials for these baskets.   We are very fortunate and grateful.

Origami fold with bitty books

Here is an interesting card.  It started with an origami fold page and ended up as a flower with two bitty books, tucked in.  Quite chuffed!  Just followed the inspiration along to see where it went.  Need to do more of these!

Halfway through May already!

Spring on Cape Cod
Spent the week on Cape Cod.  It is sort of spring there.  The trees don't have leaves yet, just buds. Thank goodness, I knew to wear wool socks!  The geese and babies were up and feeding when we walked to breakfast.  What is up with Google Reader!  Doesn't seem to mark as read.  If you start to read through newer posts but don't get through you have to wade through posts on either end to get to the middle not read yet ones!
